Topaz Tolloti | Owner 6th Street Yoga

What do you think of when you think of yoga? Relaxed? Laid back? Fit? Mindful of the world around you? Humility?  Those words describe this month's "Lady Boss," Topaz Tolloti.  Not surprisingly, Topaz and her husband Mike are the owners of 6th Street Yoga  in downtown Canton. Topaz is a familiar face around town because of her avid support of local events.

Q. Name & Location of Business?

A. 6th Street Yoga, 214 6th Street NW Canton, Ohio ~Downtown Canton around the corner from The Palace Theater and Basil.

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. We will celebrate our 1 year Anniversary this September!

Q. How did you get started?

A. I began practicing yoga in 2000 and started teaching in 2012. Downtown Yoga, where I had previously taught became available. My husband Mike who’s also a Yoga Instructor, was very encouraging and we made the leap to studio owners, opening 6th Street Yoga in September of 2016.

Q. What is your objective is in business?

A. At 6th Street Yoga the student experience is paramount. Our goal is to provide Downtown Canton with a welcoming and joyful place where everyone can practice yoga. We offer a variety of classes to fit all levels of experience. Our class styles range from gentle and relaxing to more vigorous and challenging. Regardless of the class type, all of our teachers are mindful to provide modifications to aid in making the class safe and unique to every practitioner.

Q. What are some challenges you have overcome as a woman in business?

A. I imagine they’re the same challenges all business owners face… Will the public like what I’m offering, will they buy it, will they keep buying it, will I be able to pay the rent Ha Ha! I think when you go in to business with your customer in mind and keep them at the top of your mind always you’ll make decisions that help you overcome those roadblocks.

Q. Why do you choose to own a small business?

A. I think this small business chose me! Seriously though, even with the concerns that come with being a small business owner it’s so rewarding to see what you work hard to create benefit others. I love the downtown community that surrounds and supports us, that little studio makes me happy!

Q. Why do you think it’s important to shop local?

A.  When you shop local you’re not just completing a transaction buying goods and services, you’re supporting your friends and neighbors. You’re building relationships in your community and in my experience when you support local businesses you’re dealing with a more knowledgeable and invested provider.
