OCTOBER LADY BOSS:

Keri Sullivan | Owner of The Barrel Room

_______________

The best wines are the ones we drink WITH FRIENDS. And what better way to enjoy the fellowship of your ladies than to be surrounded by an ambiance of love and laughter?  That ambiance comes courtesy of Keri Sullivan, owner of The Barrel Room Wine and Beer Bar and October's Lady Boss. We are so excited to not only be featuring Keri, but later in the month of October having a Pop-Up Shop with TBR for our "Gory Reds" event! (Stay tuned for further announcements regarding this special event!)

Q. Name & Location of Business?

A. Keri Sullivan The Barrel Room 7901 Cleveland Ave. NW.

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. TBR opened in 2010. I started there in 2013 and took over as an owner in 2015.

Q. How did you get started?

A.  I was fortunate enough to come into an already well-established business. I just put my own spin into an already great place.

Q. What background have you had??

A. My background includes a Criminal Justice degree that I never used, several years in the service industry and then several personal entrepreneurial adventures including an oxygen bar, an insurance company and even a repossession company.

Q. What is your objective in business?

A. My objective is to create an atmosphere where everybody is comfortable and excited to see what we have in store. I truly strive to get to know all of our customers on a personal level. When you walk into TBR, I want you to feel as relaxed as you would in a friend's living room. We aren't  just a bar, we are a place where you make memories.

Q.
Why makes your business different?

A. I truly believe the extra steps we take to service our customers and make them feel appreciated is what sets us apart from other bars.

Q. What are some challenges you have overcome as a woman in business?

A. Challenges I have overcome include learning to trust my instincts and to have faith in my abilities. It's easy as a woman to feel like you aren't always taken seriously or that you don't have the tools you need to succeed in business. I set that attitude aside in 2015.

Q. Why do you choose to own a small business?

A. I own a small business to give myself the satisfaction of being creative, driven and somewhat flexible in my schedule. I have four boys and a special man at home. Not working your average 9 to 5 gives me the freedom to make memories with those I love. I positioned myself in a job I love that also gives me the ability to help others and give back to the community. That feels amazing.

Q. Why do you think it’s important to shop local?

A. It's important to shop local to keep the communities we love and the families in them thriving. For me, it really is the only choice. I want my hard earned money going to other individuals and families that were brave enough to pursue their passions.
